Big Medicine Hot Springs is a primitive day-use geothermal pool located on the north side of town in Hot Springs, Montana. This is the perfect place to go for those looking to beat the crowds and have a more secluded experience in nature.
These hot springs feature one larger pool about three feet deep and 15 feet by 6 feet in area. There’s also a smaller natural tub that’s two feet deep and perfect for families with younger kids.
The temperature hovers around 100F° and is open year-round, charging visitors a small fee on the honor system. Big Medicine’s soaking areas are well-defined by a large sign and open-air rooftops.
The closest city to the springs is Missoula, roughly an hour and a half away. Even though this area is more rural than other hot springs near this part of the state, they do get plenty of visitors, so expect to see others.
Clothing is not optional, and soakers need to wear proper swimming attire. Since this is a very casual facility, there aren’t any changing rooms, food service, or towel rentals offered; guests need to bring everything they need.
Camping and Cabin Rentals
Visitors to Big Medicine can camp near the water. Tenting camping on primitive sites is an option here and a great way to embrace nature and do some bird watching. There are also affordable cabin rentals near the springs pools.
