In Northwestern Costa Rica within the Rincón de la Vieja National Park near Liberia, the Borinquen Thermal Resort is an exclusive resort that is designed for adventurous travelers. Well-known for its hot spring pools, the resort also features a large lagoon-style, outdoor pool.
Although the hot spring pools are located on-site, there are plenty of off-site tour adventures available to guests too. Close to the hotel, various tour operations offer horseback riding, hiking, and zipline excursions.
Family-friendly, the Borinquen Thermal Resort ensures that both adults and kids have a great vacation. With a rustic feel, the resort is surrounded by some of Costa Rica’s most stunning landscapes including mountains and rainforests.
Mineral Hot Spring Pools

There are three man-made pools at the Borinquen Thermal Resort, which are heated using a natural well. The resort sits above volcanic hot springs and the water is then pumped into the pools.
All three of the hot spring pools can be found towards the bottom of the resort property. Close to the heated pools, there is also a volcanic mud bath, sauna, and the Anáhuac Spa.
The exact temperature of the pools is not listed publicly, but most hot springs in Costa Rica range from 77°F (25°C) to 122°F (50°C).
There is also a large cold, outdoor pool at the Borinquen Thermal Resort. Lagoon-style, the pool has a slide and a few waterfalls. Without heated water, the main pool is a great place to cool down after enjoying the hot springs.
Kids are welcome at the Borinquen Thermal Resort and there are plenty of activities at and near the property that are family-friendly. For the hot springs, it is recommended that kids who take a dip in the water are at least 12 years of age due to the high temperatures. The family-friendly nature of the Borinquen requires guests to remain clothed at all times using either swimsuit or resort casual attire.
Anáhuac Spa

Located near the three hot spring pools is the Anáhuac Spa. Providing luxurious special packages, guests can indulge in a variety of special treatments. Aimed toward massage, relaxation, as well as body and facial care, guests of the resort can choose from a pre-designed special package or make their own custom spa experience.
The Volcano and Anáhuac are the two Special Packages that are offered by the resort and they have a duration of 2 and ½ to 3 hours. All spa services will require a reservation and prices vary, depending on your package and treatment choices.
Accommodations

The Borinquen Thermal Resort has four different room options for guests who would like to stay overnight at the property. Located somewhat remotely, the resort is the only place in the area where guests can comfortably stay in the Costa Rican jungle.
