Located on Bathhouse Row in the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Buckstaff Bathhouse has been continuously operational since 1912. It’s just one of two original businesses left on the street where people can come and soak for pleasure or pamper themselves with some wellness treatments.
With the help of professional staff and decades of crafting the perfect relaxation techniques, Buckstaff Bathhouse provides guests with an incredible geothermal bath encounter. Additionally, their hydrotherapy treatments are free of chemicals and additives.
History

The Buckstaff Bathhouse is within Hot Springs National Park, which incorporates a portion of downtown Hot Springs. Due to the abundance of hot mineral waters in the region, the city became known as a spa town. And the thermal springs were granted federal protection in 1832.
Native American tribes in the area coveted the magical waters, as they were said to help heal ailments and injuries. In 1911 the bathhouse began construction to provide people a place to relax and rejuvenate from the national park’s thermal water source.
Hot Springs National Park
Hot Springs National Park became a designated NP in 1921, long after the bathhouse was a business. Today, it is still a heavily visited natural area that draws in tourists from near and far to enjoy the wildlife and steamy geothermal waters.
Hiking is a prevalent activity in the park, which many people like to follow with a soak at one of the historic bathhouses. Biking, birding, and photography are great ways to absorb this beautiful environment too.
The only other operating hot spring spa within the park is Quapaw Bathhouse, also located on the charming Bathhouse Row. It’s one of two still open for hot springs soaking out of the eight historic buildings.
Spa Services

No reservations are required to visit and receive a whole traditional bathhouse experience; it’s walk-in only. Guests work with a bath attendant to say yes or no to specific treatment steps, allowing some customization in that way. Be aware that no refunds are given for skipping portions of services.
Some packages include bath soaks, Swedish Massages, sitz baths, steam cabinets, and hot packs. They also sell manicures and facial treatments as standalone services.
Their tubs are only large enough for one person at a time. Everyone coming for the bath experience must be non-disabled and capable of getting in and out of a tub alone.
Children old enough to take care of themselves through the process are allowed to do it too. If you recently had surgery or have a heart condition, open sores, or high blood pressure, it is not recommended to go through the experience.
