A popular destination site since the California Gold Rush, the natural mineral water, known for its healing properties, is sure to relax you while traveling through the Silver State.

Originally used by Washoe Indians and settlers in 1849, these hot springs were a popular site of relaxation for those traveling through Nevada during the California gold rush. In 1880 the spring was purchased and renamed “Swift’s Hot Springs”, with the new owner constructing multiple bathhouses, a clubhouse, and a hotel.

Over the next 20 years, the site became popular as the Nevada silver rush took hold in the area, ushering in the rich and famous.

In 1910, a road was built connecting the city to the resort, allowing the business to quickly expand. Taking on the name Carson Hot Springs Resort, this site soon became a popular location for dancing and hosting some of the biggest names in music.

Starting in the 1980s, improvements were made to various structures, and new buildings were added to the property. The final additions included a restaurant, jacuzzi spas, restrooms, soaking tubs, and a bar, bringing the resort into modern times.

Mineral Hot Spring Pools

The water found at the Carson Hot Springs Resort flows from 35,000 feet underground. Rich in sodium, sulfate, chloride, silica, and other minerals, it is said to be some of the best healing waters in the Rocky Mountains. Together, these minerals improve skin conditions, help balance the digestive system, strengthen hair and nails, detoxify the body, and give an overall sense of relaxation.

The natural, pure mineral water flows from the source at 121°F, where air spray and evaporative cooling are used to lower the temperature. The outdoor pool is kept at 93°-96°F during the summer months and 98°-100°F during the winter. It’s surrounded by a patio where you can lounge and relax, taking in the scenery between soaks in the hot mineral water.

The private indoor pools range in temperature from 95°-104°F, depending on the natural flow of the spring. Additionally, there are 9 small private pools able to hold up to 4 individuals if you, or your group, is looking for something more intimate.

Note: Each night the pools are drained and refilled to maintain their clarity, cleanliness, and temperature.

Dining and Entertainment

While Carson Hot Springs Resort does not provide lodging accommodations, there are hotels located nearby, making the visit to this spring quick and easy.

For those looking to snack on something while they soak, the Sassafras Restaurant serves up some delicious options. Their menu is focused on serving fresh, locally sourced high-quality food and is constantly evolving thanks to their creative chefs. In addition to an extensive list of locally sourced beers, Sassafras boasts a dance floor and a large stage, making this brewery a great spot to listen to live music and dance the night away.

For those who love beer, stop by Shoe Tree Brewing, an 1800-square-foot building with an on-site tasting room. Brewing 600 gallons of finished beer manually, their menu has something for everyone and will help increase your level of relaxation between trips to the hot spring pools.

While in Carson City, you will find many different activities to keep you entertained. There is an 18-hole golf course, a variety of museums and historical sites, and a plethora of events throughout the year. There are 153 restaurants within 10 miles and 40 other popular attractions to visit.

Admissions Fees

To visit Carson Hot Springs Resorts, visitors must pay a modest fee for access to the outdoor pool, patio, and sauna. Guests can stay for up to two hours and bathing suits are required.

The indoor private pools cost a bit more but include access to the outdoor pool and patio, and are bathing suits optional. There are no reservations taken for these private pools, as they are offered on a first-come-first-serve basis. Just like the outdoor pool, guests can stay for a maximum of two hours.

For those who frequent the Carson Hot Springs Resort, swim cards, which give a bulk rate discount, are also available for purchase. Towels and lockers can also be rented for a small fee.
