Frenchman’s Bend (Warfield) Hot Springs – Ketchum, Idaho

December 25, 2021 By //  by Sean Jarvis

If you’re looking for a primitive hot spring soak while exploring Idaho’s great outdoors, stop by Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs, where you can fully immerse yourself in a natural healing experience. Boasting three different pools ranging from warm to hot, visitors to this site are sure to find the perfect spot for a little R&R.

There is no chance of missing Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs, also known as Warfield Hot Springs, as they are positioned next to the road and often have steam wafting from them. Frenchman’s Bend consists of three hot springs, though the first pool is more accurately a warm spring, as the water temperature stays around 105°F.

Due to its proximity to the road, privacy is relatively non-existent, though once you are in, it’s hardly noticeable. If you wade across the creek, you will find two more hot springs that can reach 124°F. Make sure to check the water before jumping in, and, if necessary, move some of the rocks around to adjust the temperature of the pool.

One of the nice things about this hot spring destination is the refreshingly cold creek running alongside the pools. The creek allows you to fine-tune the water as well as try a little hot-cold therapy. Furthermore, the views from these springs are fantastic, and the drive to reach Frenchman’s Bend is equally stunning.

Note: Camping is not permitted on the land around Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs.

Getting There

Frenchman’s Bend Hot Springs are located 11 miles west of Ketchum, at the end of a long, rugged road. There is designated parking nearby, and on the street side, you will notice the first of three hot springs.

It can be a treacherous drive during the winter, as the road conditions are icy, so plan accordingly. During the spring, there is a massive run-off from the creek, flooding the pools and making the road impassible from mid-March to June.
