Gold Strike Hot Springs Nevada

Gold Strike Hot Springs – Boulder City, Nevada

September 6, 2022 By //  by Matt Thomas

Gold Strike Hot Springs, also spelled as one-word Goldstrike, and sometimes referred to as Goldstrike Canyon Hot Springs, is a terrific primitive option located by the Colorado River nearby Boulder City, Nevada. It requires a fairly long, difficult hike to reach its several hot springs pools.

The closest town to Gold Strike is Boulder City, Nevada. The hot springs are closed in the summer because of extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 115 degrees Fahrenheit or more. It’s only open from October to May.

Please leave your dogs and small kids at home for this strenuous trek. Bring a lot of water, snacks, and sturdy hiking boots with traction. This is a 6-mile out-and-back hike that can be done in around 3 hours of hiking (one-way).

For a shorter hike also near Boulder City, NV, consider Ringbolt Hot Springs, also called Arizona Hot Springs.

Natural Hot Springs Pools

There are a few mineral pools to soak in the further you get to the Colorado River. Temperatures range from 100 to 106 degrees Fahrenheit. You’ll reach the upper ones first, but keep going to reach the lower ones closer to the river.

As mentioned it requires a tough hike, which is extremely busy on the weekends; and is closed from May through September due to heat. However, it’s a beautiful one-of-a-kind hike that’s worth the reward in the end. Enjoy the thermal springs and take a cool dip in the Colorado River afterward.

Getting There

From Boulder City –

  • Take Highway 93 east from Boulder City for 4.6 miles to NV-172
  • Follow Highway 172 east for 2 miles until you reach the Gold Strike Trailhead

The strenuous hike takes about 3 hours one way from the trailhead. It leads through a cool canyon to several pools. There is another option to reach by taking a boat from Willow Beach. You can rent them at Willow Beach Marina, or spend the night at the marina’s local campground.

The hike requires the use of 8 fixed ropes to make it all the way to the Colorado River. It’s a bit more work on the return going up. Wear boots with good traction because they will get wet. You’ll pass a few hot springs on the way, however, make it all the way to the Colorado River for the best ones.
