Located just outside of Bishop, California, Keough’s Hot Springs offers the largest Hot Springs pools in the Eastern Sierra Nevada. With a history dating back to 1919, Keough’s Hot Springs offers large hot springs as well as camping and a basic snack bar.
Natural Hot Springs
The main draw of Keough’s Hot Springs is decidedly the two large pools, built when the complex opened in 1919. Each pool is filled with natural, geothermally heated spring water that flows from the ground at a very hot 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
To cool the temperature to one appropriate for swimming and soaking, the water is fed into a spray system that flows into the pools, cooling the water off significantly.
The primary pool is large, measuring around 100 feet by 40 feet. The depth varies, but its deepest point is over 8 feet. The temperature of this pool hovers around 90 degrees year-round, perfect for swimming and relaxing in any weather.
The second pool, the Hot Pool, is kept at around 104 degrees F. It is smaller and meant for soaking and relaxing in the hot mineral water. The water of both pools, coming straight from the ground, contains 27 different minerals, creating a healthy and invigorating environment.
Throughout the week, Keough’s Hot Springs offers water aerobics classes on a first-come, first-served basis for a reasonable fee.
Besides the pools, this area features dressing rooms and restrooms, and lounge chairs surround the pools for sitting and sunbathing. Additionally, the Hot Springs offer a snack bar with an indoor seating area as well as outdoor picnic facilities.
Finally, Keough’s Hot Springs contains a Camp Store containing camping supplies, Keough’s Hot Springs souvenirs like hats and shirts, and all the items required for a fun and relaxing day at the pools.
Campgrounds
Keough’s Hot Springs, in addition to the inviting pools, provides accommodations in the form of campsites and furnished canvas tents within walking distance of the Hot Springs.
The Rustic Furnished Tent Cabins are furnished with antiques, and they contain proper bedding, a firepit, and even a mini-fridge.
There are ten campsites offering water and electric hookups, as well as additional campsites without hookups. Showers are available for a fee. Camping reservations may be made by phone. RVs are welcome, but generator use is prohibited.
