Located near Youngstown, FL, Pitt and Sylvan Springs is a 10-acre recreation area favored by many for its water activity opportunities like boating, swimming, and tubing. The surrounding park also has lots to do for those who prefer to stay on land, such as hiking, wildlife watching, or enjoying a picnic outside.
This natural location is part of the Econfina Creek Water Management Area, which boasts a land space of 41,000 acres. Open from sunrise to sunset, this swimming hole can be crowded on sunny afternoons, although early mornings in spring and summer are less packed. The Northwest Florida Water Management District owns the whole area.
History
The park area took a long time to develop, but the end product is a great natural space. Starting in 2006, the stream banks were repaired to reduce further erosion, and new trees that can survive in water were added to the area.
The park’s recent upgrades include improved access to Pitt Spring, three pavilions with picnic tables and grills, and boardwalk pathways leading walkers to the Sylvan Springs overlook.
Natural Springs

Set along Econfina Creek, Pitt and Sylvan Springs pump around 10 million gallons of fresh water daily and are considered a second-magnitude spring. The water temperature is 68℉ year-round, which can feel chilly in the winter and refreshing during the hot summer days.
Visitors can see the Sylvan Spring in one area and even notice a few places with bubbles coming up from vents when the waters are calm. The Pitt Spring area is just a short distance away and features inviting azure waters.
Swimming, Tubing, Paddling and Other Activities

There’s plenty to do in the springs areas, from families with kids to the outdoor enthusiast. Swimming, canoeing, and tubing are fantastic ways to enjoy the waters, especially when the weather complies. Visitors can even access the recreation area by boat, as a launch area allows incoming water traffic to tie up their vessels for a pit stop.
Other activities that can be done from shore include picnicking, hiking, wildlife watching, and fishing.
