Roper Lake State Park sunrise Arizona

Roper Lake State Park (hot springs closed) – Safford, Arizona

October 8, 2020 By //  by Matt Thomas

When visiting Tucson, Arizona, and looking for a place to rest and explore the outdoors, Roper Lake State Park is a necessary stop. Located in Graham County, this rural state park offers a hot spring, lake, hiking trails, and camping resources.

Natural Hot Springs Pool and Activities

The hot spring at Roper Lake State Park is closed and no plans have been made to resume operation. Formerly, it could be experienced through an outdoor rock-lined hot tub. The water’s temperature varies depending on the time of year, with an average temperature of about 99 degrees. The hot tub is a perfect spot for a quick dip after a long day of enjoying Arizona’s nature.

If the hot water is too much, you can easily cool off in the peaceful Roper Lake. Whether you like boating, swimming, or fishing, there are plenty of water activities available here. You can enjoy all this with the picturesque view of Mount Graham in the background.

Soaking in the hot tub and swimming in the lake are popular activities at Roper Lake State Park, but this area offers so much more. There are five miles of hiking trails in the park, and the area is great for bird watching as well.

Camping

Because there is so much to enjoy at Roper Late State Park, many people decide to stay a few days and take advantage of the camping resources. The designated campground area includes restrooms and showers, vending machines, electric RV hook-ups, picnic tables, grills, and public phones. You can even rent one of the eight cabins on site, which are sure to be perfect for you and your whole family.

Hours and Admission

The hot spring, as well as the rest of the state park, are easily accessible from the road without needing an additional hike. It is open year-round from 6 am to 10 pm with a vehicle fee when entering the park.

When planning a trip to Roper Lake State Park’s hot spring, be sure to keep in mind that the hot spring tub is small and gets crowded quickly. You will also need to make reservations in advance if you plan on camping at the park overnight.

For more information about everything that Roper Lake State Park has to offer, you can make a stop at the visitor center as you explore the area. There is also a store in the visitor center where you can pick up any necessities you may have forgotten to pack.

If you are looking to explore other nearby parks and hot springs, we recommend you look into visiting the Hot Well Dunes, Pinaleno Mountains, and Riggs Flat Lake.

No matter what you have planned for your outdoor getaway, Roper Lake State Park will fulfill your hot spring needs while also offering many other fun activities for the whole family.
