A man and woman soaking in the Santa Rita Hot Springs in Mexico with another woman standing about to get in

Santa Rita Hot Springs – Baja California Sur, Mexico

February 9, 2023 By //  by Michelle Keldgord

Anyone planning an exciting excursion to the southern coast of Baja California Sur should consider checking out the Santa Rita Hot Springs. You’ll will be engulfed in a beautiful blend of desert and lush landscape while splashing back and forth between mineral-rich hot spring pools and fresh cold spring waters.

Baja California Sur is home to many hot springs destinations, including Santa Rita and neighbor El Chorro Hot Springs, which is only a twenty-five-minute drive away. These thermal waters were formed thousands of years ago when seismic activity and volcanic eruptions formed the exciting area.

The volcanic activity continues today, causing hot water to bubble up from beneath the earth’s surface. This creates refreshing, all-natural, and mineral-rich hot springs designed to rejuvenate the mind and body.

Santa Rita is a must-visit for anyone seeking true tranquility. You’ll be met with various pools beautifully tucked into the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere. Visitors enjoy breathtaking scenery in every direction. One can melt their troubles while reaping the geothermal waters’ therapeutic and healing benefits.

It’s known as being a desert oasis, yet the unique landscape ensures you have impressive views of sky-high palm trees, intricate cacti, and rugged canyons of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountain Range.

This blissful natural treasure is nearby various waterfalls, including the Sol de Mayo. With the sound of cascading waters close by, Santa Rita is indeed an escape from the busy local cities that tend to be packed with plenty of people and plenty to do.

Cold Springs

While the main draw to Santa Rita is the invigorating, all-natural hot springs, it’s not the only thing that brings tourists from near and far. Santa Rita is also home to an extensive collection of natural cool freshwater pools, which offer a refreshing dip – especially after an indulgent soak in the steamy hot springs.

Guests enjoy maneuvering back and forth between the hot and cold waters, utilizing what is known as hot and cold water therapy. This activity is praised for its immense health benefits, including improved circulation, a fired-up lymphatic and immune system, and relief from aches, pains, and inflammation.

Hiking

Seeing as Santa Rita is a part of the Sierra de la Laguna Biosphere, it’s unsurprising that the area is a treasure trove for hiking enthusiasts (although the term “hiking” can be used loosely here). A trek through the surrounding area ensures plenty of exciting visuals, from charming small waterfalls to vibrant cacti and palm springs sporting lovely shades of green, brown, and yellow.

When you’re done alternating between the hot and cold spring waters, take a trek through the nearby area – you won’t regret it.
