As for the top destination in the park, Sol Duc Hot Springs features three mineral soaking pools and a freshwater pool. The water is known to be rich in nutrients because of its natural flow and cycle.

It’s said that the pools are filled with rainwater and melting snow that made their way through the sedimentary rock formations around the pools. This journey highlights the gasses and minerals that were brought by the water from the surrounding volcanic rocks.

The deepest one is the Small Mineral Wading Pool – about 6-8″. The pool has an average temperature of 99 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Medium Mineral Pool and the Large Mineral Fountain Pool are both 3′ deep and are only available for ages 4 and up. These pools are hotter, with an average temperature of 101 to 104 degrees F.

For those who are looking for a refreshing swim, the Freshwater Pool is 3′ deep and is available for all ages.

Make sure to schedule your soak because the management closes down the hot springs twice a day to test the water. They call it the “resting period.”
