The incredible scenic views around Termas de Outariz are sure to take your breath away.

Termas de Outariz (Hot Springs) – Ourense, Spain

November 14, 2020 By //  by William Reavis

While visiting the capital of Galicia, Ourense, in northwestern Spain, stop by Termas de Outariz, a Japanese inspired hot spring. Boasting fourteen relaxing pools, a comprehensive treatment center, and an impressive sushi restaurant, this unique hot spring facility is sure to help you unwind.

Hot Spring Pools

Geothermally heated mineral water emerges from the source at 140° F and is spread among eleven outdoor and three indoor hot spring pools. Termas de Outariz divides its pools into two distinct groups: the Zen Circuit and the Celtic Circuit.

These circuits, each containing a progression of multiple pools, are designed to provide a complete and authentic hot springs experience while overlooking the Minho River. The Zen Circuit, inspired by traditional Japanese Onsen (hot springs), is a circuit of nine pools characterized by calm, relaxing waters.

This system, and the additional sauna, are designed with meditation and introspection in mind. The pools are constructed primarily of wood and stone and include traditional Japanese style tubs like rotenburo and ofuro .

The Celtic Circuit, on the other hand, is inspired by ancient Celtic architecture and contains a progression of seven pools and one sauna. Unlike the calm, relaxing waters of the Zen Circuit, the Celtic Circuit is characterized by movement. The geothermally heated water bubbles and flows, producing an environment perfect for removing muscular tension.

Termas de Outariz also provides lockers and towels, and guests may rent bathrobes and flip flops at the reception desk if needed.

Massage Treatments

Besides the spectacular riverside hot spring pools, Termas de Outariz also includes a complete massage and beauty treatment area offering a variety of massages, baths, and traditional treatments.
