The Wilderness Lodge & Hot Springs – Gila, New Mexico

November 5, 2022 By //  by Patricia K

40 miles outside of Silver City sits the Wilderness Lodge Hot Springs, a time-honored spa getaway that’s great for unplugging from daily life. You can’t go to this Nevadan hot springs for just the day, so the only way to ensure you can use the natural pools is to rent the whole lodge.

This lodge in Gila dates back a hundred years when it was used as a school. In the 1960s, Coy Rasberry took down the building by himself and moved it to Gila Hot Springs.

Natural Hot Springs

There are two natural geothermal pools at Wilderness Lodge. The water supply is not purified, and the flow is completely pure with no sulfur odor.

Even more remote hot springs may be found in the Gila Wilderness, which offers a unique way to experience nature. The owners are happy to provide advice on how to prepare for your journey and where to find safe hot springs in the backcountry.

These incredible hot spring pools are created by geothermal heating, so keep in mind that they may be really hot.

Many hiking routes also have natural hot springs. Little Bear Canyon, Middle Fork Hot Springs, and Alum Camp are a few trails that have great finds. The ones on the Middle Fork Hot Springs are some of the hottest within the Gila Wilderness area.

Other Activities

Due to its rural nature, the lodge property has many incredible things to do besides soaking. Fishing, hiking, horseback riding, biking, rafting, and birding are a few of past visitors’ favorite activities. Other attractions include nearby ghost towns, the Gila Cliff Dwellings, The Catwalk National Scenic Trail, Santa Rita Copper Mine, and the Paquime Ruins.

Accommodations

This former classroom building has been transformed into a charming B&B. There is a two-bedroom unit with a private bathroom on the ground level and a second shared bathroom on the upper floor for guests.

Two spacious rooms are available for conferences and seminars. Various group events, including weddings, retreats, parties, and family reunions, are welcome at the site.

Guests can have the staff prepare all their meals for them or bring their own food and use our cooking facilities.

The Wilderness Lodge is also a neighbor to the Gila Hot Springs Ranch and the Gila Hot Springs Campground. Both of which offer additional lodging and camping accommodations.
