Located only 19 miles east of Cascade, Idaho, the Trail Creek Hot Springs, also known as Samuel’s, although sometimes tricky to find, is a magical spot truly worth the journey. While this hot spring is open year-round, it is recommended that guests plan at least one trip during the winter.

The scenery is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland, allowing guests to stay warm while surrounded by the serene, snow-covered terrain. Note: To ensure continuous use by future generations, make sure to take home all items, and any trash procured, during your visit!

Trail Creek Hot Springs is accessible year-round, depending on accessibility due to the weather. When you arrive, you will notice two sand and rock-soaking pools nestled into the landscape with stunning 360° views of the surrounding mountains.

Hot water trickles from the rocks above the pools, mixing with cold water from the creek. This fusion of temperatures helps to maintain a pleasant soaking temperature no matter the season.

Camping

There are ample campsites near the hot springs, many of which have fire rings available. During the warmer months, you are likely to run into other visitors because of the popularity of the spring. Additionally, there are other campsites and campgrounds available in the Boise National Forest, a few of which lead to other hot springs nearby.

Getting There

From Cascade, ID:

  1. Just north of Cascade, Idaho, on Highway 55, you will go east on Warm Lake Road.
  2. Follow this road for 19 miles.
  3. As you approach the 19-mile point, begin looking for a pullout on the left-hand side. A sign marked “Yellow Pine” will let you know you have traveled too far.
  4. At the pullout, you will discover a steep trail that tracks down an embankment. It will lead you toward the hot spring. Once you discover your entry location, this easy hike takes you directly to one of the most breathtaking mountain hot springs in all of Idaho.
