Trego Hot Spring – Black Rock Desert, Nevada

November 19, 2020 By //  by Sean Jarvis

The Black Rock Desert in Nevada is home to over 300 primitive and developed hot springs including the Trego Hot Springs.

Trego Hot Springs

The Trego Hot Springs are a primitive hot spring site located 2 hours north of Reno adjacent to active railroad tracks. The 400-foot trench that makes up the hot spring pool was hand-dug in the 1860s and resembles a long “Y”.

The temperature of the water varies from 90°F to 100°F, depending on where you decide to enter. Towards the northwestern end, you will find the source as well as the hottest water in the pool. It is best to start on this side of the ditch and move your way down until you find the perfect temperature.

Fees and Camping

The Trego Hot Springs are free to visit, as they are located on public land. There are many camping spots nearby and it is recommended to set up your campsite at least 300 feet away. Since this is a primitive hot spring, you will not find any amenities here, but the privacy and scenic landscape are worth the journey.

While visiting Trego Hot Springs, make sure to check out a few of the other hot springs located in Nevada!
