The United States is a treasure trove of natural landmarks, and hot springs are no exception. The western United States, from Colorado west out to California, features the most thermal springs, though you’ll find them on the East Coast as well. The ones that are safe for soaking are all rich in minerals and vary in temperatures from the upper 60s to well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hot springs have been a source of wellness and therapeutic benefits for centuries now. Some of the most amazing hot springs in the United States were discovered centuries ago. Today, they have been modified into tourist spots that attract hundreds of people every year.

These calming mineral-rich waters are the perfect choice if you are looking to go for a vacation where you can gain some positivity, reconnect with nature, and heal your mind and body. But do note, that there are many geothermal hot springs rising up to the surface that are toxic to people, such as most of those found in Yellowstone.

The United States is full of natural hot springs. Some of them offer scenic views amidst the mountains while others have luxurious spas and recreational centers built around them. And they aren’t all located out west, although that’s where the vast majority of them lie, as evidenced in the photo above, you’ll find hot springs on the East Coast as well.

Whether it’s for relaxation, healing, or recreational activities, locals and tourists continue to flock to these natural hot waters in summers and winters as well. The exceptional health benefits that the hot springs in the US offer are the primary reason you should visit one.

Benefits of Soaking in US Hot Springs

The minerals present in the hot water and the alkaline properties boost the blood circulation in your body. This also improves the oxygen flow in the body. Furthermore, it helps reduce stress and relax your body muscles, helping you sleep better.

The relaxing environment and nourishing minerals also contribute to psychological healing. The warm water increases the body temperature and then cools it down once you’re out, helping you distress your muscles and fall into a deep sleep.

Hot Spring Resorts

You will be glad to know that many of the hot springs in the US have been converted to commercial spots with spas, resorts, and other activities. They have something for everyone!

They are considered convenient spots for travelers who are looking for a weekend getaway at a reasonable cost. The resorts often have indoor pools, hot tubs, Jacuzzis, and nearby recreation such as hiking, fishing, and biking.

You can enjoy a good soak and a mini-vacation with your family at these hot springs in the US. Since many of these spots are situated in the middle of nowhere, they are good for a couples’ getaway where you can enjoy nature and privacy. Many of the accommodation facilities offer private rooms and cabins, making them the perfect way to get a break from the chaotic city lives.

Primitive Pools

On the flip side of the hot springs coin, are primitive hot springs. These are often completely undeveloped or just minimally in order to set up a pool with thermal mineral water. They are free, though can get crowded and don’t receive the routine cleaning found at many of the resorts.

A lot of the primitive hot springs are also more difficult to reach than their resort counterpart. Some even require a long hike to reach, or by raft on occasion. This is part of the allure though. The ones that are easy to reach are often plagued by the masses.
