Vichy Springs Resort - Ukiah, California

Vichy Springs Resort – Ukiah, California

November 10, 2022 By //  by Patricia K

Guests at Vichy Springs may enjoy the comforts of both a rustic inn and a spa at this unique destination. Based on what we know, Vichy Springs is the only place in North America where you may find a naturally warm and carbonated “Vichy” mineral bath.

This Northern Californian facility welcomes both day users and overnight guests.

History

Vichy Springs Resort has about 5,000 years of history, starting with the Pomo people who lived there before they were written down to its modern spa operations. It’s assumed that the age of the springs is more than five million years.

Over the decades, the springs have been owned by multiple people and have welcomed celebrities who have come to visit, such as Presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, and the Ghiradelli family. In the late 20th century, the property saw even more improvements and polished up some original buildings for overnight accommodations.

Guests may choose from four pools to swim or relax in at Vichy Springs, including an Olympic-sized one, an in-ground hot one, the carbonated “Vichy” Baths, and the Chemisal Falls pool. Chlorine is not used in any of these waters.

The Mineral Baths – The “Vichy” Pools are organically carbonated mineral baths held at 90 °F. A spring nearby supplies water to 14 separate baths, the oldest of which date back 154 years. The spring itself is located at a depth of 30,000 feet below ground. A 30-minute bath is a great way to wash away stress and help feel refreshed.

The Hot Pool – The community’s in-ground hot pool temperature is a comfortable 104 °F. Bathers may fully use the hot pool during cooler nights thanks to the naturally heated water.

The Chemisal Falls Pool – It’s a pleasant 30-minute stroll down one of Vichy Springs’ scenic pathways to the picturesque Chemisal Falls pool. As water cascades over Chemisal Falls, it collects in a natural reservoir at the foot of the waterfall before making its way downstream into Little Grizzly Creek. After a rewarding trek, a rejuvenating dip in the pool will restore Genergy.

Vichy Plunge – The seasonal 30 x 80-foot pool is a non-heated pool perfect for a cool dip on hot summer days (it’s open from May to October). Guests enjoy using this Olympic-sized pool that boasts ozone technology. These methods are the primary oxidants in swimming pools and hot tubs. Bromine is used as a secondary oxidant because the law requires it.

The Hiking Paths

The hiking paths at Vichy Springs span over 700 acres of natural beauty. There are five primary routes guests may take to see the area around the property: Chemisal Falls, Loop Trail, Pond Creek Trail, Cinnabar Mine, and Vista Point.

As visitors look around the site, they might find a stream and waterfall that run all year, Northern Californian wildlife, and one of the best flower displays in the area.
