There are several options to relax in hot springs on the island of Sao Miguel, but some stand out more than others. One of the best options for soaking is Poca Da Dona Beija, which can be found in the city of Furnas.
Getting to these thermal baths is easily done with a rental car or spending the night in town and walking.
Mineral Hot Springs

There are a total of five pools at the property, four of which are kept at a comfortable 39 °C/102 °F and one that is maintained at a refreshing 28 °C/82 °F. Many guests like the freedom to alternate between hot and cold water. Some pools are shallow and equipped with seating structures, and one is deep enough for standing.
Remember that the hot water in Pocas Da Dona Beija is iron-rich and may leave stains on clothes. Wear darker swimwear and bring a towel if you don’t mind becoming them becoming a little dingy.
Towels and lockers are for rent on-site; however, guests are given a plastic basket to carry personal goods. To get the most out of your visit, you should allow at least 90 minutes, which is also the maximum time allowed in the pools. Aside from on-site restrooms and changing rooms, there’s also a gift shop that sells small souvenirs and mementos of the place.
If you’re looking for something to do late at night, the hot springs are available from 8:30 am to 11:00 pm. Younger and rowdier crowds show up at night, so if you’re hoping for a peaceful soak, go to the pools first thing in the morning.
Know Before You Go
This swimming facility is not clothing-optional.
It would be best to eat before entering since food is not permitted inside. Glass, pool toys, alcoholic beverages, soaps, and cigarette products are forbidden. When you get out of the water, walk straight to the showers and start rinsing off to minimize the discoloration of your swimsuit. After the clothing dries, washing them becomes more of a hassle.
