San Kamphaeng Hot Springs is 36 kilometers/22 miles outside Chiang Mai in a lovely park connected by a manufactured canal. These mystically relaxing waters are one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations, and lush vegetation, beautiful gardens, and groomed lawns surround them.
The park is open daily from 7 am to 6 pm and charges admission depending on what activity people want to do. The easiest way to get there is to drive your own car or hire transportation. You can also take a bus from Chang-Puak Transport Station to San Kamphaeng if you don’t have access to a personal vehicle.
Mineral Hot Springs
You can’t miss the ‘San Kamphaeng Hot Springs’ sign as soon as you step foot on the premises. The water running through the whole park is all-natural, around 105 ℃ at the source.
Activities
Sitting on the bank of the stream, dipping one’s feet into the warm water, and generally chilling out are the most common reasons people go to San Kamphaeng Hot Springs. Minerals, notably sulfur, found in abundance in the water make it an excellent choice for anyone looking to improve the health of their skin.
Visitors also often buy eggs from stands across the park to cook them in the hot mineral water. There are two sites where the water bursts out of the ground, and a tiny pool with crystal blue, boiling water where you can hang a basket on a hook to cook your eggs. On average, it takes 10 to 15 minutes to make a hardboiled egg.
In addition to the egg boiling, guests in the park can use the historic mineral baths or dip in the mineral swimming pool. These waters are cooled down enough to be safe for getting in. While refreshing in the depths of winter, this may be too hot to enjoy in Chiang Mai at the height of summer.
Camping
Camping facilities are available onsite for those who want to spend the night by the waters. At San Kamphaeng Hot Springs, people can stay in places called “shelters,” such as bungalows and tent sites. Each guest must pay a nightly charge in addition to the rental rate.
With such a gorgeous backdrop for soaking, these manicured gardens are the ideal spot in the Chiang Mai area for spending a day relaxing.
