Established in 1739, this historic self-catering resort features a variety of hot and cold baths, as well as wonderful hotel accommodations. It’s located in Citrusdal, a small town of 5,000 residents in the Western Cape of South Africa.
Tucked away in the Olifants River Valley, The Baths Natural Hot Springs showcases beautiful Victorian-style stone buildings in a peaceful setting. There are a variety of chalets and flats to choose from.
Thermal Hot Springs Pools
There are both hot and cold water outdoor swimming pools. You can also soak in a number of hot mineral spring baths. The natural hot water springs feature a temperature of 43 degrees Celsius or 109 degrees Fahrenheit. Day guests are welcome by prior reservation only.
Other activities include a tennis court, pool table, kids playground, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well as bird-watching opportunities. Other on-site facilities include a curios shop and MacGregors Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There is no music or pets permitted. Only 220 people are allowed at any time due to ecological sensitivity.
Overnight Accommodations
There are 16 chalets and 19 flats, each with full kitchens and braai (barbeque) areas. Campers will also have a choice of 25 caravan and camping sites. Each has electrical hookups and shared access to ablution (washing) facilities.
Online bookings are only available for the Outside Chalets. Weekend booking require both Friday and Saturday night. Pets are not welcome.
