Baldi Hot Springs Hotel Resort & Spa – La Fortuna, Costa Rica

The largest hot spring resort property in Costa Rica’s exclusive Arenal region is the Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa. It actually claims to be the largest thermal springs resort in the world! It’s located at the base of the Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica.

The 4-star hotel features more than 2 dozen pools filled with mineral-rich thermal water. Soak and stay at this incredible resort in a natural paradise. It’s one of the top-rated attractions in La Fortuna, open to both day and overnight guests.

Designed with multiple pools of varying sizes and temperatures, everything at the Baldi Resort is connected by walking paths. Many of the pools have ornate features including waterfalls, rock installations, gardens, in-water seating, and pool bars.

Smartly designed, hot pools will have a cold pool nearby so that guests can quickly cool off. Family-friendly, guests of all ages will enjoy taking a dip and spending the day at the Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa.

There are a whopping 25 hot springs pools to soak in Baldi. Each will heal your body and soothe your mind. The all-natural mineral water is a delight for the senses. This family friend tourist retreat features 5 water slides, 3 swim-up bars, saunas, and Jacuzzis.

At the Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa, there are 25 dipping pools throughout the property. The resort guarantees that their spring water is the “purest in the world” and for guest satisfaction, the pools are microbiologically studied and cleaned each day.

The resort’s hot pools are fed by the Tabacón River, which flows close to the property. Spring water is pumped into the pools and meticulously maintained.

Of the 25 pools, 15 are filled with hot mineral water and temperatures range from warm to very, very hot. Aside from the cold pools, the coolest hot spring is 93°F (33.8°C) and the hottest is a whopping 152°F (66.6°C).

All pools at the resort are labeled by temperature. Signs at the entrance to the pool will tell guests the temperatures, so it’s important to look for the sign before you take a dip.

Guests are required to wear clothing or swimsuits at the resort because it is a family-friendly property. All pools are open to all ages. However, it is recommended that only adults enter the hottest pools.

The Spa at Baldi is top-notch with a wide array of body treatments and rejuvenating therapies. Experience true bliss with any of their body wraps, exfoliations, facials, and massages. You’ll feel incredible after a weekend at this replenishing resort.

In addition to the mineral baths, the Baldi Resort has the Acqua Luxury Thermal Spa on the property. Designed to bring harmony and peace to guests, the Acqua Luxury Thermal Spa offers a variety of rejuvenating treatments, specialty massages, and thermal water tubs.

Guests can choose from an extensive treatment menu, which includes options for massages, facials, exfoliations, and pre-designed or custom packages. Treatments at the spa can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as a few hours. All treatments and packages will vary in price, depending on the duration and services provided.

The Acqua Luxury Thermal Spa requires reservations and they have strict payment policies regarding cancellations and no-shows. Guests at the spa will be provided with a complimentary locker, robe, towel, and slippers. Spa treatments can be enjoyed by minors, if they are 12 years or older.

A large portion of the resort property is dedicated hotel space. Guests can book overnights at the Baldi Hot Springs Hotel Resort and Spa for the full vacation experience.

The upscale hotel was added in 2010 to better serve the Baldi fans. It showcases 32 upscale rooms throughout its 4-story building. Amazingly all the rooms provide at least a partial view of the imposing Arenal Volcano. There are five room types:

Tucked away from the main hot springs and cold pools, the hotel features lush tropical gardens, modern facilities, and premiere service. There are a variety of room options including the Junior Family Suite, Junior Suite, Deluxe Room, Superior Room, and a Standard Room. All rooms have a private bathroom.

In the rooms, guests will have a view of the Costa Rican jungle and a few have great views of the Arenal Volcano. The larger suites will have an expansive private balcony, while the smaller suites come with a small, private patio.

Dining

In addition to the in-pool bars, there are 2 dry bars and 2 restaurants for fine dining and drinking. A private parking lot is available with a full-time security guard.

On-site near the hotel, the two restaurants are called the Virgita Restaurant and the Pyramid Restaurant. Guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Pyramid Restaurant or check in for lunch and dinner at the Pyramid Restaurant.

Getting There

The Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa is located in the small Costa Rican town called La Fortuna. A popular tourist spot that is filled with plenty of hot spring resorts, the Baldi is the largest property in the area.

La Fortuna, the town, sits at the base of the Arenal Volcano near the Arenal Volcano National Park. The town itself is rather small, but plenty of tourists crowd the area because of the hot springs. La Fortuna is located 98 miles (158.9km) northwest of San José, Costa Rica’s capital city.

To get to the Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa from the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José:

  • Head north on the Inter-American Highway to the town of San Ramon.
  • At San Ramon, exit and drive through the town.
  • Continue on the road past the towns of Los Angeles, Balsa, Bajo Los Rodríguez, Santa Clara, Javillos, and El Tanque.
  • You will arrive in La Fortuna.
  • Once in La Fortuna, stay on the main street (Road 142) as it curves around the base of the Arenal Volcano.
  • The resort is located on the main road and can be spotted with its large roofed entrance.
