Essence of Tranquility – Safford, Arizona

The Essence of Tranquility is a low-key hot springs resort with plenty of soaking pools and overnight accommodations. It’s located in Safford, AZ, which lies about 3 hours southeast of Phoenix or two hours northeast of Tuscon.

Situated in southeastern Arizona, Essence of Tranquility is a rustic resort with a relaxing ambiance. You can find both clothing-optional and required options. Tent camping, lodge rooms, and casitas cabins are available to rent. There are also various massage and bodywork available.

There are six soaking tubs to choose from, each filled with natural hot mineral water. Five of them are private, and clothing-optional when the doors are closed. One is a communal hot springs pool that requires bathing suits.

Temperatures range from 98 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Fees are required for entry, which can be up to 1 hour or all day. It’s open seven days per week. The waters flow continuously in and out of the tubs, and it’s not recycled or filtered, always clean. Each tub has separate plumbing.

Hot springs tubs include:

  • Tub #1 Waterfall Room – 103°F, private
  • Tub #2 The Cave – 102°F, private
  • Tub #3 The Blue Lagoon – 98°F, open communal
  • Tub #4 Asian Trek – 104°F, private
  • Tub #5 Greek Vacation – 104°F, private
  • Tub #6 Island Escape – 105°F, private

Please bring your own towel and drinks. However, there is no glass, no alcohol, and no smoking permitted.

Overnight Accommodations and Camping

There are a wide variety of small rustic casitas to choose from. Each is pet friendly and has basic amenities including beds, microwaves, refrigerator, coffee makers, heat, and air conditioning, however no private restrooms. There is a full communal kitchen to share, as well as a living room with cable and wifi.

Shared BBQs, bathrooms, and showers are available in the campground.

Dogs are permitted, however, they cannot be in the shared kitchen or rec room, and must be on a leash at all times when outside. All overnight lodging includes access to the hot springs.

There are also a couple of campsites to rent charged per person. They are located in a nice grassy area. Mount Graham can be seen from the campground. The Reflection Pond is nearby.

Advanced reservations are required for all accommodations including camping. There are no drop-ins allowed. You will need a credit card to confirm the reservation.

Body Treatments

Massages are available in 1/2 hour or 1-hour increments. In addition to massage, there is reflexology, ear coning, and essential oil therapy. All treatments are done in private rooms to ensure proper relaxation and comfort. You need a credit card to reserve an appointment in advance, which is required at least 1 day ahead.
