Kirkham Hot Springs Idaho

Kirkham Hot Springs – Lowman, Idaho

September 10, 2022 By //  by Matt Thomas

Kirkham Hot Springs are a set of primitive pools on the side of the Payette River near Lowman, Idaho. It’s a solid overnight side trip when visiting Boise in Southern Idaho.

It’s located nearly two hours northeast of the capital city, a beautiful drive, right off the highway in Lowman, so reaching there is not a problem. The hot water springs are surrounded by mountains, rivers, and trees. It is the perfect place to relax while enjoying the feel of nature – and you get it all in one place.

Natural Hot Springs Pools

Kirkham Hot Springs comprises a bunch of natural water springs streaming down and collecting in the hot water pool. The temperature is controlled by adjusting the rocks, making the place suitable for both summers and winters. It’s located riverside and features a lovely sandy bottom.

The scenic beauty of Kirkham is what the visitors love the most. The snow-capped mountains and river flowing on the side make an exceptionally beautiful backdrop for pictures.

The cold, freezing water of the Payette River flows down the mountains. In summertime, you can enjoy a perfect cold dip in the river followed by a relaxing soak in the hot water rich in minerals.

The hot springs flow from in between the rocks, making the site adventurous and fun. However, do remember to take a pair of water shoes as the rocks can be sharp and slippery. The steep rocks on which the water flows downwards can also be used as a slide.

Nearby Camping

The local campground, which is seasonal, is temporarily closed by the U.S. Forest Service due to littering and mistreatment. The parking lot has also been closed, but visitors can still park along the road. Just walk past the closed gate to reach the springs.

Camping is available down the road at Haven Hot Springs Pool where you’ll find 24 sites. RV sites come equipped with full hookups. There are also motel rooms at Haven Hot Springs.

There are many hotels, cabins, and accommodations available in nearby spots. The best part is that it’s easily accessible so you can go for a day’s trip as well.

Cliff Jumping

Cliff jumping is another favorite activity. You can take a hike up the rocks. There is also a staircase with a wooden deck. Cliff jumping is fun but dangerous and injuries do happen. Make sure you check the depth, have a clear landing, and land feet first.

Rafting
